A workshop on speaking and communication tools and confidence building techniques. The best way to be confident about your spoken communications is to prepare and  practice  the  skills you're not yet comfortable with. These interactive, fun sessions gives you the opportunity to learn how.
Pain-Less Presentations

Many of us have to, or want to get up and speak in front of others. this may be just to comment at your child's school meeting or it may be the presentation of a million dollar proposal to a major new client.

the skills are the same and, believe me the FEAR is the same. Learn simple techniques to overcome that fear. Learn easy ways to look and feel terrific as you speak.
Practice, in safety, amongst friends. If you have to make mistakes, better do it where it's safe and you can get  coaching to improve your methods, your content, your style and your delivery. The only reason I can speak comfortably in front of large or small audiences is because I've done it ... often! It's practice!

December's Top Tip:
NEVER learn a speech by heart! You have to concentrate so much on remembering, you will lose all possibility for spontaneity. Speaking is an INTERACTIVE activity: you are speaking TO someone; they respond to your words, your story. Be prepared to react, in your turn, to their response. It's impossible to do this if you're reciting a learnt speech. You might miss a bit, a cue.
Do feel free to learn an opening or a close. You can't beat a short, sharp, focused opening or a snappy closing to a speech. Magic.

Finish with a Bang!
Work out a memorable ending.
(Like a great quote or a short relevant story), Then when you either reach the end, or as often happens, you're cut short/told to finish up, simply "run" your rehearsed ending and finish with a "Bang"!!

Look after VIP's!

Get your voice working for you. Variety is key.

Volume: strengthen your voice with practice. Like any muscle, it needs exercise regularly.

Inflection is the way you vary the note of your voice say asking a question. imagine a Cork accent or a Welsh accent. Both are musical in the way their note rises and falls.

Pitch has to do with sounding serious or otherwise. High pitch can be funny or anxious. Deeper tones give weight and depth to your words. Notice that female news-readers always have lower, never squeaky, voices!

So, use your VIP's cleverly
to get your point across effectively.

Eye contact
Make significant eye contact around the room; a couple of seconds is sufficient. Not too long ... or it gets sexual ... whether you mean it to or not!! Move in random fashion around the room: pick out friendly faces ... perhaps four or five. I like to find someone near me, at the front, and one or two on either side of the space and one near the back door. Speak directly to these faces, making solid eye contact. Everyone will feel included in your talk. Everyone will feel you are speaking just to THEM. Perfect! Job done!
